difference in vaughn velocity 3 goal pads?
what are the differences besides cost of the
Vaughn Velocity 3 7500
and
Vaughn Velocity 3 7400
pads, blocker and glove?
they all look very similar and cant tell the difference from the pics online.
The Vaughn 7400 is what's known as a 'Senior' level pad. The Vaughn 7500 is what's known as a 'Pro' level pad. There are some major differences, which cannot be seen online. I could go on and on, but I will boil it down to a few, key differences.
First off, quality of the materials. In the lower end 7400 Vaughn has scrimped and saved, adding lower-quality synthetic leather, adding crappy "quick release" nylon straps, not paying as much attention to small details, like quality of stitching. The 7500 is what the Pros get, all of the materials being top of the line stuff.
The material inside the pad is of poorer quality as well. I am not sure exactly what the difference is, but in the 7400 the foam is cheaper and will break down faster, so you lose protection more quickly compared to the 7500.
Longevity is probably the biggest factor. If you are looking to buy a pad that will last you for 10-20 years while playing regular high end hockey, then spend the extra money on the 7500 line and it will last that long. If you are not playing high end hockey, or you're not sure which pad you want, then go for the 7400.
