Inline Rollerblades Roller
Looking to buy a new pair of rollerblades/inline skates... need suggestions!?
I want to buy a new pair of roller blades ... mostly for skating but I
I'm also planning to join a roller hockey team. Anyone have any suggestions on certain brands that are good? I want something for speed but also comfort and not too expensive if possible...
Also if anyone knows of any good stores in Austin, TX that sell roller blades list those as well.
FYI: Rollerblade is only one brand of inline skates.
You will need to decide on what your priorities are for roller hockey v.s. regular skating and speed.
The inline hockey skates from companies like Bauer are designed to be very maneuverable and protective of hits in hockey at the trade off of being less comfortable and fast for normal skating.
You can choose recreational skates that are good for comfort and speed and are reasonable for inline hockey but not as good as the ones specifically designed for that.
For recreational skates, the two major companies are K2 and Rollerblade.
For a crossover skate, I would recommend looking for aluminum frames and 80mm wheels.
The aluminum frames are for strength. They are better than plastic ones for recreational skating and hockey is more abusive.
80mm is the smallest size that I generally recommend. Many more choices of good wheels available in 80mm or larger and larger wheels roll easier and smoother for more speed.
However, going larger than 80mm will reduce the maneuverability when playing hockey.
Fit is critical. Try on as many skates as possible to find one that fits snug without pinching your toes. You want them to act as a part of your feet.
Some models come in men's and women's skates. Try them both on. The shape of the foot is different and the women's skates are normally cut lower in the back since the muscle is lower along the leg for women.
