What are the best inline roller skates to buy for hockey?
as in wheel size and stiffness?
There is no "best inline roller hockey skate" out there, as each player has their own quirks of things they like and dislike on skates. Thus the best skates are those that first, fit your fee the best, second, fit your budget, and third, offers the features that you like after you've accomplished the first two items on the list.
However, if you're asking what's best for roller hockey skates in terms of wheels and wheel hardness, I can help you there.
As far as wheel size goes, you're likely to find most roller hockey skates offering a hi-lo wheel setup. This means the wheels in the back will be larger than those in the front. The most common form of this wheel set up is two 80mm wheels in the back and two 72mm wheels in the front. However, you may also find a wheel setup that has one wheel size in the very back, followed by two wheels that are the same size, but smaller than the one in the very back, with one wheel in the very front that is smaller than the preceding two. An example would be the Reebok 6K Pump roller hockey skates. I own these and the wheel set up (going from back to front) is 80mm-76mm-76mm-72mm.
Either one is fine, but the purpose is to get your weight forward for better acceleration.
As far as the wheel hardness (known as Durometer) goes, it will depend on where you're playing. If you're playing outside in the street or in a parking lot, you need something harder. Something around 82A. This wheel is harder than say a 74A or 76A (Reebok 6K) and will not wear down or chunk off outside. If you take an indoor wheel (78A or below) outside, it is going to fall apart.
Comparatively, if you're skating indoors only, get something in the 72A-76A range. This will work very well.
